ZagrebDox International Documentary Film Festival 2011

From February 27 until March 6 2011, the ZagrebDox International Documentary Film Festival will take place in the Croatian capital, Zagreb.

This year will be the seventh ZagrebDox Film Festival, which aims to provide unique insight into modern documentary film production.

The festival is regarded as one of the most respected European film festivals and is open to producers, directors and national film authorities entitled for representation of films, which summit documentary films that were completed and/or publicly screened after 1 January 2010.

The ZagrebDox awards include four different categories, the Big Stamp Award – for Best Film in International Competition Program, Big Stamp Award – for Best Film in Regional Competition Program, Little Stamp Award – for Best Film of a young author up to 30 years of age, and Audience Award – for Best Film by audience choice. The awards are considered highly prestigious in the world of documentary film, and include a diploma, statue and a cash prize.

Not only does the film festival provide exclusive insight into this exciting medium, but it encourages cooperation between film professional in south-eastern Europe, where they can meet, share views and creative ideas, as well as gaining contacts and recognition in the world of European film documentary.

Amongst this year’s entries is a documentary film titled, ‘Position Among the Stars’, which has already won the World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Documentary Film, and ‘Erotic Man’ by 73-year-old Jorgen Leth.  Leth’s controversial erotic journey explores whether ‘eroticism’ can be measured, limited or defined.

Although a glamorous awards ceremony is far from not the only feature of this international film documentary. Every year, the ZagrebDox Film Festival puts on the ZagrebDox Pro, which enables authors and producers of documentary films to participate in a masterclass, conducted by prominent figures from documentary films. The workshop is designed to help participants acquire the skills of seeking international partners for co-financing their films.
