A luxury villa in Andalucia – La Soledad

Arcos de Frontera and La Soledad – Witness Andalucia at its most fertile! Despite Spain’s phenomenal diversity in its culture, climate and landscape, one thing that ‘knits’ this fascinating nation together is it’s quintessential “pueblos blancos”, scattered sporadically throughout.

These dazzling whitewashed villages that stand dramatically perched on the foothills of mountain ranges create a satisfying contrast to often barren and burnt backdrop, at least in Andalucia where rain is commonly scarce.

Although the dry and arid landscape that typically surrounds many of Andulucia’s “pueblos blancos” cannot be applied to Arcos de Frontera. This dramatically positioned whitewashed village is precariously balanced abreast a rocky limestone ridge, its stone castle walls seemingly preventing the town from tumbling down a sheer cliff to the luxuriantly fertile valley below.

This ancient Moorish town that is a warren of cobblestone streets winding towards the spectacular Castillo de los Arcos was justifiably declared a national historic-artistic monument in 1962 in recognition of its extraordinary position and remarkable architecture.

With the mighty River Guadalete rolling through the verdurous valley below, this uncharacteristically fertile region of Andalucia could be a picture postcard area of Galicia in northern Spain or even Wales, but of course with better weather!

If you looking for somewhere to stay close to one of Spain’s most pretty and remarkable “pueblo blancos”, then Vintage Travel recommends the luxury villa in Andalucia, La Soledad. This seven-bedroom country home is situated just six kilometres from Arcos de la Frontera, and all its uniquely wonderful delights.

This beautifully maintained villa has been owned by the same family for generations. With vaulted ceilings, opulent archways, a private tennis court, a luxury pool with a separate children’s pool, immaculately kept gardens and a vine covered terrace, La Soledad has been accommodating large families and groups with style, panache and comfort that can be rivalled by little.

If you can manage to prize yourself away from this hugely impressive country home and want to venture further than the many Moorish treasures of Arcos de la Frontera, then trips to the Andalucian ‘must see’ cities of Seville, Cadiz and Jerez are thoroughly recommended – Either way, a stay at La Soledad and Arcos de la Frontera is guaranteed that you’ll witness Andalucia at its most fertile.
