Villa Quinta da Pousada – a luxury villa near Ponte de Lima

Villa Quinta da Pousada, Ponte de Lima – Where you will feel like a royalty for the duration of your holiday.

 Villa Quinta da Pousada

It would be nigh on impossible to exaggerate just how good villa Quinta da Pousada actually is. A huge country mansion house set in 5-acres of the sort of countryside that would probably be owned by the National Trust if it were back in Britain. Quinta da Pousada was first built in the 16th century when Portugal was a major seafaring power. It has been lovingly restored to more than its former glory and is now a truly fantastic place for you and your family to spend your well-deserved holidays.

There are actually four bedrooms in Quinta da Pousada’s main house with two further bedrooms in a fabulous poolside house. The additional accommodation could prove to be extremely useful for perhaps a couple who have two noisy children in tow!

Two twin rooms have en-suite facilities, as does a third, which also has a door leading to the courtyard. There is a further double bedroom and including the two twin rooms in the poolside house, Quinta da Pousada can sleep 12 people in total luxury.

The bedrooms maintain their rich heritage and you can imagine some important Portuguese men and women staying at the house over 400 years ago in very similar surroundings to the present day. The villa’s roof is simply superb with beams, rafters and wooden planking visible. The window frames are made out of solid stone. In fact being surrounded by such natural magnificence, it is not that difficult to remember in Quinta da Pousada that you are in fact sleeping in a historic place that was built before the great city of Madrid was even conceived!

With a dining room leading to two different terraces, a kitchen with a door to the old courtyard, laundry room, cloakroom and a sitting room with a Juliet balcony, a door that also leads to a terrace, and a further bathroom and a hall leading to foliage covered terrace, it will take some time before you are acquainted with the quirky layout of this villa. Maintaining the opulent feel of the house, the ceilings of the rooms are a rich dark wood and the effect is one of wealth and taste.

The outside of the house is, you’ve guessed it, a true wonder. There are fantastic landscaped gardens containing old trees and beautiful flowers and shrubs. The scenic pond with lilies growing at the edge of the water and which is surrounded by Acer Palmatums resembles the front cover of an edition of Cheshire Life magazine when running an article on a famous old hall!

Quinta da Pousada’s pool is huge at 14m x 7m! With a myriad of terraces it is not difficult to find some shade from the warm Portuguese sun whilst the well-maintained grass is perfect for strolling around in your bare feet.

Quinta da Pousada is seven kilometres from the historic riverside town of Ponte De Lima. Founded in 1125, Ponte de Lima is one of the oldest towns in Portugal. The Romans found their way here in a bygone era Romans and built a wonderful arched bridge over the River Lima, which connects the route from Braga to Santiago. The bridge still stands today and augments the impressive history and archaeology of the town.

Every second Monday Ponte de Lima holds one of the largest country markets in the whole of Portugal. If you are staying at Quinta da Pousada during the second weekend of September you might want to visit the annual fair, which has taken place in Ponte de Lima since 1826.
