Luxury family villa near Faro -Casa Idalina

Looking out towards a vast stretch of red rooftops and the fertile slopes of the wild lands of the Serra de Calderao, Casa Idalina certainly boasts an idyllic spot.

Casa Idalina

This four bedroom, five bathroom luxury family villa near Faro is perched above the quaint village of Sao Romao, not far from the larger town of Sao Bras de Alportel in the sunny Algarve.

More commonly known as simply Sao Bras, this unpretentious town is rested on an escarpment looking down towards the Algarve coast. Centred round an old church, the Episcopal Palace and an atmospheric town square, Sao Bras is the perfect situ to become acquainted with traditional Algarvan life.

Renovated to a high standard from the ruins of an old farmstead, Casa Idalina is certainly ‘at one’ with this seemingly ageless corner of Portugal.

With beamed ceilings and constructed using local materials and methods, including cane, an aura of bucolic rapture is woven throughout the whole of Idalina. Despite its rustic charm, spaciousness and a unique sense of style is at the core of this Algarve villa.

A feature fireplace in the vast living room provides the perfect backdrop for the authentic art that takes pride of place throughout the whole of the property. A well-stocked bookshelf reinforces the cultural and artistic stamp that exudes throughout the visually-stimulating house.

The capaciousness of the living room continues into the bedrooms. All four bedrooms – two doubles and two twins – are en-suite. The bedrooms are accessed via a door from the living room which also leads to Idalina’s upper terrace. This perfectly-positioned terrace overlooks the property’s fabulous private pool and the bucolic bliss that extends beyond it.

Idalina’s garden is a colourful network of vibrant bougainvillea, citrus, climbers, a characterful gnarled olive tree which delightfully contrasts to a handsome and pristine neighbouring carob-bean tree. The pool takes pride and place on the lower terrace. If needs be, which is unlikely in the high summer season, the pool can be heated for an ultra-luxurious swim.

Dragging yourself from the charms and luxuries of Idalina might be testing but it would be worth it. Within walking distance – 3 kilometres away – is the charming market town of Sao Bras de Alportel.  If ancient Algarvan archaeology is what you seek, just 8 kilometres from the house lie the Roman ruins at Milreu in Estoi.

Naturally, fantastic beaches are never far away on the Algarve and a short drive will put you in the heart of Algarve beach heaven at the exclusive resorts of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago.

Whether it’s spending a lazy day with the family on the beach, a romantic meal for two in a top Portuguese restaurant, discovering the region’s ancient archaeology or relaxing by a private pool surrounded by natural rural rapture, at Casa Idalina, the very best of what the Algarve has to offer is on your doorstep.
