Christmas in Rennes: What’s happening?

It’s Christmas time again, is it going to be like previous years, or something different? Why not get away for a few days during the festive period? You could jump on a ferry and end up someplace where everything is new and exciting. The perfect destination could be Rennes, the capital of Brittany, which is easy to pop over to visit?

Rennes

You’ll be able to hunt for interesting gifts, enjoy different food and drink and mingle with everyone in a fairyland of lights, illuminated Christmas trees and street decorations which light up the water. Or you could just sit at a street café, enjoy the music and people watch, whilst sipping real coffee or something stronger.

One of the biggest Christmas attractions in Rennes is the moving Lumiere projection show, which covers the whole front of the Hotel de Ville Rennes. It is a dazzling display of colour that takes your breath away.

During the day if you still have some energy left you can walk through a Christmas winter land of Arthurian myth in the forest of Broceliande with its mystical monuments and mist rising from the streams.

Back in Rennes you can stroll through the old part of town with its half-timbered medieval buildings and relaxing gardens. On the Christmas Saturday the fresh produce market is pungent with smells of produce from local farmers.

After your Christmas trip you can return home to wish your friends and relatives a “Joyeux Noel,” armed with unusual and distinctive gifts.
