Seville: A city you just have to visit

Often described as ‘the most charming city in Spain’, with its unique Moorish and Christian heritage everywhere you look, Seville in Andalusia is a city you simply have to visit. A city of beautiful streets full of culture, a cathedral with its bell tower of Giralda, the stunning Lebrija Palace, the Royal Alcazar Moorish fortress, which is now a huge royal palace with some of the most beautiful gardens you will ever see, there’s something for everyone in Seville. The ceilings in the Lebrija Palace are breath-taking, as are the walls with their stunning tiles.

Plaza de España situated in the Maria Luisa Park is an impressive square. Built for the Expo in 1929, it has been used as a backdrop for several movies, including Lawrence of Arabia and Star Wars. Walk around the Old Town, in particular the Santa Cruz district, and soak up the atmosphere in this fabulous Spanish city. Or why not rest in a cool bar, sample some tapas and watch the world pass by?

It’s not just about historical culture, the city boasts great restaurants, numerous nightclubs, theatres, music venues and of course flamenco shows, for which Seville is world famous. What better situation to watch the sunset in this city, than from one of the many cruise boats, which frequent the Guadalquivir River.

From Seville you can venture out to other parts of Andalusia. Go by train to Cordoba, and visit the incredible mosque, or the lovely city of Cadiz. You can also get to Granada to view the world famous Alhambra Palace.

Just a word of caution, Seville is hot in summer even by Spanish standards! During July and August, it can reach 45°C, so drink plenty of water regularly and use sun hats and cream. Also  try to avoid driving through the city when possible; it is jammed with one way streets. Take a taxi, explore on foot or make use of public transport for the most convenient way to get around.
