Exploring Pollenca’s Old Town
Pollenca is a municipality on the island of Mallorca, one of the most popular islands of the Balearics. Its timeless quality offers something for everyone, from excitement, entertainment, sporting exertion, to wonderful peace and calm.
Puig de Pollença
The stunning Puig de Pollença can be reached by a stiff walk up stony tracks, where you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful panoramic view from its castle ruins. At the top there is a restaurant which, as well as the views, will give you the incentive to finish the steep walk. If you’re feeling particularly energetic, you could attempt the 365 Calvari steps to the top early in the morning before the heat and crowds begin to appear. Get to the summit so early that you can watch an incredible sunrise, and then put a candle in the chapel, before descending for breakfast.
Plaza Mayor (Plaça Major)
Pollenca’s main square is lined with restaurants, which specialise in substantial tasty meals. From the square, take a stroll around this lovely town, which is well kept and buzzing with friendly locals. There are plenty of interesting shops to tempt you through their doors!
Església de Nostra Señora dels Àngels de Pollença
One of Pollenca’s main attractions is the Church of Our Lady. The paintings decorating the vault are exceptionally preserved, full of light and colour and surprisingly cheerful.
Other sights to visit include the Puente Romano (Roman Bridge) and the Museo Dionís Bennàssar near the Plaza de San Jordi, a small but very interesting studio of Dionis Bennassar, a post-impressionist artist of Mallorca.
At Mon d’Aventura you can experience kayaking, swimming with colourful fish in crystal clear water, rock scrambling and great waterfalls. There are also the blue caves, where with the aid of a snorkel you will be astounded by the incredible azure colour all around you.
