Explore The Ribeiro Wine Route, Galicia
For those of you who don’t know, Galicia is a haven for fine Spanish wins. The air, temperature, soils and altitudes are responsible for growing some of the finest grapes in the World. Lucky for you we have a wide selection of luxury private villas with pools around Galicia so you can come and experience this incredible environment for yourself with ease.
If asked to describe the local wines, we would say they are young, light, perhaps slightly acidic and bursting with fruity and floral aromas. The whites are the best (in our eyes) and we’d definitely recommend those made from the Torrontés, Loureira, Godello, Albariño and Treixadura (known as the “king” of Ribeiro wine) grape varieties
Galicia is also famous for its shell fish, which we’d have to agree is some of the finest in Spain. The combination of a fine white Robeiro wine and locally caught seafood is absolutely heavenly and something we’re sure will leave a lasting impression.
The Ribeiro Wine Route is a stunning stretch of countryside that will present you with some of the finest views in Spain… and it’s well worth taking a day or two to hire a car and go explore this vastness. You’ll not fail to stumble upon ancient villages with Baroque and Romanesque churches, fortresses and palaces and old Jewish neighbourhoods known as hórreos.
The route will also take you through oak forests, river canyons and then there’s the thousands of acres of vinyards.
Getting there
The Ribeiro Wine Route is located in southeast Galicia, in the province of Ourense. You can get there by plane, flying into Vigo airport and then getting to the region’s capital by car 60KM away. Then all you need to do is take the A-52 motorway which runs through Ribadavia, and can be joined 28 kilometres from the city of Ourense. This motorway links up with the A-6, which goes as far as Madrid. From Portugal, the entry route into Galicia is the AP-9 motorway.
If you prefer to travel by train, there is a station in Ribadavia itself which has daily connections with large cities like Ourense, Vigo, Pontevedra (all three in Galicia), Zamora and Ponferrada (in Castile-León) and Madrid.
There is also a bus station in Ribadavia which has several daily departures to cities such as Ourense or Vigo.
