Kayaking

Get wet and wild on Menorca – It’s kayaking time!

Did you know that Menorca has more beaches than Ibiza and Mallorca combined? This beautiful, sun-drenched island certainly makes the most of its sandy periphery. Many of its beaches are extremely well facilitated, whilst others remain untouched, meaning there is a beach for everyone on Menorca.

Kayaking

And none more so than for water sports enthusiasts. When it comes to exciting and exhilarating water sports, Menorca is awash with them. The island’s diverse coastline of golden sandy beaches, pebbly coves and translucent lagoons, makes Menorca a haven for equally diverse water sports, and in particular kayaking!

Recognising the potential kayaking has as a tourist attraction, the tourist board of Menorca has, in recent years, been actively attracting people looking for kayaking holidays and adventures.

Kayaking has become such a prominent part of life on Menorca there are numerous dedicated kayaking centres scattered along the coastline.

Various kayaking excursions range from one-hour leisurely paddles along the shoreline, to full-day paddles to nearby coves. For real kayaking enthusiasts, week or even ten day-long kayaking adventures are available, which involve bivouacking on deserted beaches and taking enough supplies to last the duration of the trip!

If a less ambitious kayaking excursion sounds more appealing then it won’t be difficult to find a centre that caters for expeditions in sea or river kayaks for all abilities.

Courses are also available to teach the necessary skills to be a competent kayaker, both in the sea and in rivers. For example, white water kayaking courses teach participants the skills needed to successfully break waves, explore inland waterways, carry out time trials and even perform acrobatics and white water rodeo.

Whether you want to give this exhilarating sport a go with several lessons, want to tackle the waves at your leisure, or fancy embarking on a ten-day excursion with little more than a kayak and a rucksack, the beautiful island of Menorca will satisfy all your kayaking cravings.
