Lake holidays in Italy

The 370,000 year old Lake Bolsena is in fact a crater lake with a volcanic history. The Romans documented volcanic activity back in 104 BC, however since then it has remained dormant. The lake is in fact Italy’s fifth largest and has become incredibly popular for water sports enthusiasts, swimmers… and anyone wishing to explore central Italy!

The water is crystal clear, teeming with fish and surrounded by some fine volcanic sandy beaches (that don’t get overcrowded) making it the perfect get away in central Italy.

If you’re looking for a Lake holiday in Italy with unspoilt views over one of Italy’s finest lakes, Lake Bolsena, then you have to check out La Gioia villa. It sleeps 6 in three bedrooms and has been designed to take in the magnificent view on offer.

It’s a short 1km stroll to the ‘centro storico’ (historic town centre) of Bolsena and here you’ll find a fabulous selection of cafes and restaurants to choose from. You simply have to visit the Lake if you stay here where you’ll find sailing, kayaking, fishing and boat trips. If you want a scenic drive then we suggest you go past Montefiascone and Capodimonte.

But if it’s food you have come for then we suggest eating in either La Sirenetta or Il Gabbiano which are both lakeside and offer splendid views.
