Luxury villa in Galicia – Villa Eido Vello, Gondomar

If you are looking to stay in traditional accommodation in a particularly unspoilt region of Spain, then look no further than villa Eido Vello in Galicia. This traditional stone built cottage is situated in the southernmost part of Galicia close to the border with Portugal in the province of Pontevedra.

Villa Eido Vello

The nearby town of Baiona has just been awarded the Gold Award for the quality of its coast by an international jury in Malta. Beautiful beaches such as the Playa America are a ten-minute drive away from the cottage. Yes, it is safe to say that this luxury villa in Galicia is a lovely addition to the Vintage Travel portfolio in a rather special part of the world.

The nearest town to Eido Vello is Gondomar. During the 17th century a very important man (from an English point of view) came from Gondomar. His name was Diego Sarmiento De Acuna, Count of Gondomar and Ambassador to England from 1613-1622. Diego Sarmiento De Acuna was Spain’s leading expert on all things English. He was the main perpetrator of a matrimonial alliance between the Prince of Wales and the Infant Maria Anna of Spain, thus keeping close ties and peace between the two countries. He also was largely responsible for pushing for the beheading of Sir Walter Raleigh who had broken a treaty with Spain by attacking the Spanish when abroad on an expedition. A famous English historian at the time said that the Count of Gondomar was “cleverer than any man in England.”

Eido Vello has one double bedroom and a twin room and can sleep up to four guests. There is a large bathroom with two shower cubicles and two sinks. The lounge and dining area are open plan and there is a compact traditional Galician kitchen, which has another dining table which is ideal for breakfasting on. Being typical Galician, the furnishings and fabrics in Eido Vello are at one with the house and the countryside that surrounds it.

With the sparkling Atlantic Ocean glimmering though at 13 kilometres away surrounded by the verdurous rapture this part of Spain relishes in, the views are superb from Eido Vello. Augmenting the scene further is the cottage’s 8 metre x 4 metre swimming pool, which is surrounded by a well-kept lawn. Further exploration outside leads to more grassland and a stone terrace, adding intrigue to the garden and of course a great place for kids to explore and embark on imaginative adventures.

Eido Vello is in an extremely unspoilt rural setting and would be ideal for a small family or couples wanting some peace and quiet in wonderful natural surroundings.
