Silves Medieval Festival 2015 on the Algarve
From spending lazy days on a beautiful golden beach to discovering great cuisine in a traditional Portuguese town, you’ll never be stuck for things to do on the sunny Algarve. If however, you are looking for a different experience while on holiday in the Algarve you may want to visit the Silves Medieval Festival 2015.
Known simply as the Silves Medieval, this incredible festival is one of the biggest and most extraordinary summer events on the whole of the Algarve. Locals and visitors dressed in medieval garb, as knights, moors, kings and queens, leprous beggars and villagers creatively re-enact what life might have been like in Silves during medieval times.
Medieval merchants flock to the streets, selling their handcrafted wares, delicacies and other Arabesque products from stalls around the town. Medieval taverns sell delicious dishes and the whole town comes alive with street performers, activities for children, battle re-enactments, fire shows, horse riding contests and much, much more.
This ten-day festival has grown in popularity and prestige with each passing year, having sold more than 64,000 daily tickets in 2014. The festival is widely considered to be one of the region’s most important summer events and 2015 will see it return to Silves for its 12th year.
This year’s Silves Medieval Festival will take place from 7 August – 16 August and is an absolute must for all the family to lap up an unforgettable medieval experience on the Algarve.
