Starina Mala: A beautiful country cottage in an unspoilt corner of Croatia
The delightful stone-façade property known as Starina Mala can be found in the scenic and unspoilt valley of Konavle, within the stone walls of a tranquil hamlet of Vitaljina, amongst Croatian countryside at its most stunning. This beautifully renovated country home has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and can sleep four guests.
Starina Mala combines rustic traditionalism with a contemporary vibe, with astounding results! The cottage’s interior is spacious, airy and inviting, with an open-plan design crafting plenty of space for guests to spread out and feel at home. Pristine whitewashed walls are brought to life with injections of colour and vibrancy through the interesting artwork hung on the walls.
The double bedroom on the first floor enables guests to find their way outside with ease via a door that leads to the property’s rear terrace and its private pool, and Starina Mala’s exterior really makes the most of this stunning corner of Croatia.
A large dining terrace extends two sides of the cottage, providing a shady place for guests to relax and unwind while soaking up the spectacular views at surround Starina Mala. A built-in barbecue at one end of the terrace encourages some serious al-fresco wining and dining to take place on this large shaded terrace.
To the rear of the property there is another terrace for guests to sit and unwind, part of which was the stone threshing circle used by locals in bygone days!
Pretty, terraced gardens lead to Starina Mala’s pool, blending seamlessly with the verdure landscape that surrounds this quaint country home.
If you can manage to leave Starina Mala to explore the area, the pretty fishing village of Molunat is just 10 kilometres from the house. This traditional village is home to two restaurants, a local shop and a shingle beach.
Make your way through the vineyards and orchids that carpet this corner of Croatia to the larger town of Gruda, which is just 15 kilometres from Starina Mala. A 30-kilometre drive will bring you to Cavtat, a charming coastal town made up of quiet coves, impressive Renaissance sites and plenty of great bars and restaurants. From Cavtat you can jump on a ferry and visit the bustling and distinctive town of Dubrovnik for the day, one of the most prominent tourist towns of the Mediterranean.
