The Hulda Festival – A Journey into Art and Science across Europe

You’d be excused for not knowing about the Hulda Festival, it’s not been hugely publicised here in the UK.

The festival has in fact been running since March 2009 and finishes in November 2010 and celebrates the coalescence of arts and sciences around Hulda, the 100-year old sailing boat of the Turkish-Swedish artist Ilhan Koman (Edirne 1921 – Stockholm 1986).

The Hulda - 2009 (Bordeaux)

The Hulda will be touring Stockholm, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bordeaux, Lisbon, Barcelona, Naples, Valetta, Thessalonica and Istanbul and the festival benefits from the active partnership of some of the most prestigious art or science institutions based in these 10 cities.

Each city is celebrating the festival by putting a different activity or event on, for example in Barcelona between 18 March 2010 and 28 March 2010 you can join a workshop entitled ‘Creating the Nautical Charts of the Middle-Ages’ at the Barcelona Maritime Museum.
