The top three beaches in Kalkan

If you’re after a beach holiday bathed in sunshine, refreshing waters and nothing much to do other than relax and be happy, then in Kalkan, you might have found your dream destination. In fact when it comes to beaches, you’re spoilt for choice in and around the town of Kalkan on the Turkish Mediterranean coast.

Kalkan

Take a look at three of the best beaches near sunny Kalkan.

Kaputas Beach

Kaputas Beach is situated between the towns of Kalkan and Kas. This beautiful beach is formed by a gorge, which gradually stretches into a vast expanse of golden sand.

With 200 steps leading down to the beach from the road, Kaputas Beach is not particularly suitable for those who have an aversion to walking! It’s lengthy walk also means there are few facilities on the beach and consequently it remains relatively quiet.

Kalkan Beach

The beach at Kalkan itself is definitely worthy of laying out your towel for the day. This white pebbly beach is lapped by remarkably clear water, which stays calm most of the time making it a great spot for bathers and for families with young children. Testament to its consistent cleanliness is its blue flag flying proudly in the sky.

Facilities are pretty good on Kalkan Beach and the hustle and bustle of the town’s harbour is just a stone’s throw away.

Another great feature of this beautiful beach is its incredible sunsets – perfect for those on a romantic Turkish escape!

Patara Beach

Patara Beach is a 12 kilometre-long stretch of sand, which is approximately 20 minutes by car from the town of Kalkan. Backed by golden sand dunes and being part of a National Park, it is hardly surprising Patara Beach was voted one of the best beaches in the world by the Times Online in 2005.

The area has rich biodiversity and is a breeding ground of the endangered loggerhead turtle. Consequently, development on the beach is prohibited.
