Things to do in Bergerac 2010
Bergerac is a 15th Century town set on a riverbank in the Dordogne region and situated in the South West of France half way between Bordeaux (90km) and Toulouse. It’s most famous for its good museums, possibly the best being the Wine or Tobacco Museums.
If you love your wine then you’re heading to the right place as it’s at the very heart of the wine-producing region and perfectly placed for exploring the local area. If you get time then do make a trip to Bordeaux and see its fine 18th Century architecture.
Here’s a quick rundown of the key things to see and do in 2010:
Maison des Vins
Well worth a visit, this is a free museum with lots to see and do. You can play around with different stations to see how easily you identify about 25 scents, which help you test your ‘wine nose’!
Grotte de Villars
This is a day trip from Bergerac, that involves a bit of adventure. The grotto was discovered in 1953 and consists of more than 13kms of underground tunnels that connect the river. You’ll see stalagmites, stalactites as well as prehistoric paintings made 17000 years ago. A great trip!
Aquarium du Perigord Noir
The Aquarium du Perigord Noir is as it suggests… an aquarium. It houses 6000 fish in 3,000,000 litres of water spread over 30 pools.. plenty to see!
Le Vieux Port
Take a trip to this ancient port rich with history. Be sure to book your space on a traditional boat rides that will take you up and down the river pointing out the best bits.
If you are looking for accommodation then why not consider the rather quaint Château Le Pintre (sleeps 12) situated just 1.5km from Eymet where you’ll discover cafes, restaurants and shops. Surrounding Eymet are more beautiful villages, plus lots of vineyards and obviously the town of Bergerac. This year, there is a small party rate for up to 6 people in May (except 1/2 term), early June, September and October. Please note that three bedrooms (not all 5) will be made available to them.
