Three reasons to visit Pula in Istria this summer

Rare Roman architecture, Leonard Cohen and Joe Cocker – Just three reasons to visit Pula in Istria this summer.

Leonard Cohen in Pula

What could be better than catching either Leonard Cohen or Joe Cocker in concert whilst taking a memorable vacation in beautiful Istria? Opportunities like this don’t come knocking on the door every year, so why not grab the chance while it’s there?

Leonard Cohen plays the Pula Arena on August 2, 2013 and Joe Cocker will perform on August 21 at the same venue. While seeing Leonard Cohen sing the likes of Everybody knows, First They Take Manhattan and Hallelujah, and Joe Cocker perform Unchain My Heart and With A Little Help From My Friends, would be a once in a lifetime experience, visiting the Pula Arena is an experience in itself.

Out of the 200 remaining Roman amphitheatres left in the world, Pula Arena is the only one to have four side towers and all three Roman architectural orders entirely preserved.

Retaining a complete circuit of wall this ancient amphitheatre, which was constructed in 27 BC – 68 AD, is a rare example of Roman architecture and is one of the best preserved ancient monuments in Croatia.

Even the likes of Joe Cocker and Leonard Cohen, who must be used to performing in famous halls all over the world, will surely be blown away at the chance to play in  such a rare and historical building. Roman gladiators fought to the death here and now Mr Cohen and Mr Cocker will sing their beautiful songs in a thoroughly unique setting.

Renowned for its mild climate, unspoilt nature, calm sea, the city and vicinity of Pula, which is the largest city in Istria, is a delight to visit regardless of which mighty artists are performing there.

This bustling Croatian city has a long tradition of fishing, winemaking and shipbuilding and if you are interested in any of these time-honoured Croatian traditions, then a trip to the vibrant city of Pula is definitely recommended.

Pula this Summer is certainly a great choice, and to make it easier, here’s a selection of luxury villas in Istria.
