Vintage Travel’s Villa La Gustave rides high in The Times’ 50 Sensational Villas list

“Consider your summer sorted”, the Sunday Times declares, by visiting La Gustave in Provence. Vintage Travel’s truly magnificent villa La Gustave was number three on this year’s highly respected Sunday Times’ “50 Sensational villas” in Europe list.

“It’s rare to find two-bedroom houses with so much space and character in Provence, especially in the Luberon. This one has more than two acres of garden, a pool and two shaded terraces,” the Sunday Times appreciatively describes.

Being surrounded by olive trees, not far from the especially quaint hilltop town of Gordes, it is not difficult to understand why La Gustave found its way onto the Sunday Times’ exclusive European villa list.

With shutters painted lavender, this old stone ‘borie’ – ancient dwelling – exudes all the charm and character one associates with traditional French houses and certainly stands out from the equally as picturesque countryside it resides in.

Inside La Gustave guests are immediately greeted with a pleasant mix of original features and modern comforts to create a sense of cosiness and comfort. As the Sunday Times exclaimed, space is at the heart of this wonderful villa, with a spacious tiled living room, kitchen and dining area, generating charm, character and comfort.

Away from the pressures and strains of life back home, one can certainly expect to get a good night’s sleep on holiday, particularly in La Gustave, which boasts the prettiest of bedrooms with the most beautiful of views of the sprawling and tranquil Luberon countryside.

Externally La Gustave is as equally inviting, with grounds that extend a hectare and include a vine covered terrace overlooking a beautiful private pool, olive groves and eventually taking the eyes across the verdant valley of idyllic scenic rapture.

Asides this spacious villa’s cosy décor, stunning grounds and views that are unrivalled by little, what makes a stay at La Gustave exceptionally special, are the villages and towns that are situated within its vicinity.

Just four kilometres away is the world-renowned Gordes, a hillside town that is well-known for its white-washed buildings, its labyrinth of “calades” – narrow cobbled streets – and as long being the inspiration for artists, past and present.

Part of the reason Gordes experiences a consistent whir of tourists ascending on its streets all year round, is due to the town’s insatiable appetite for putting on events. What has been cited as being the ‘cultural capital of Provence’, Gordes is never short of its art, music, film and other mind-enhancing cultural events – Just another reason to head to La Gustave this summer.
