Visit South West France for a lovely break

Situated along the South West coast of France you will find vibrant seaside resorts, historic and stylish towns, and long stretches of sandy beaches. The rivers of Dordogne and Garonne flow through the area, making it a green and pleasant landscape. This pretty region is favoured with mild all-year round temperatures, allowing you to relax on the beach or explore the mountains and woodland valleys without getting too hot and bothered! The area is a major wine producing area, and where there is good wine you will also find good food!

Biarritz

South West France has many good places to visit. Biarritz, for example, was once the favourite of British royalty. Other charming towns such as Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Lourdes are both interesting places to visit, as are the many delightful medieval villages that are dotted around, set in beautiful countryside with breath-taking views.

The area of Charente Maritime has everything you’ll need for a great family vacation, with over a 100 beaches, catering for every taste. La Coubre has a sheltered shoreline, which is also popular with families. La Palmyre has a long stretch of beach with interesting inlets that are ideal for children to paddle in.

La Pignade is a peaceful village next to the La Coubre forest, which is ideal for cycling through on your way to the nearest beach.

Aquitaine is another area that is ideal for a family holiday. Lake Biscarosse has a large beach and shallow waters that are also perfect for youngsters. There are also several water sports available on the lake. The Arcachon Basin is a lagoon famous for its oysters that are reputed to be amongst the best in France. Dune du Pyla has the reputation of being the biggest sand dune in Europe. To date it has consumed numerous trees, a road junction, and impressively, a complete hotel!

The South West of France is ideal for sports; particularly golf, fishing (the best salmon and trout rivers in France) and skiing in the Pyrenees.
