Why visiting the Turquoise Coast during the autumn makes sense

With milder weather, less crowds and still plenty to discover and explore, visiting popular Mediterranean destinations during ‘out of season’ months such as October and November can make sense. The stunning Turquoise Coast on the southern shores of Turkey is one such place in which autumn is an exceptionally rewarding time to visit.

Once August is over, like much of the Mediterranean, the Turquoise Coast adopts a calmer vibe of gentler heat and a sea that is still relatively warm after the intense summer heat.

During the autumn the small harbour town of Kalkan with its pleasant horseshoe bay is void of the high season crowds it attracts in the summer.

The beaches on this stunning stretch of coastline can be still drenched in sunshine well into the autumn and even winter. The famous and beautiful Patara Beach, which forms part of the national park, is rich with wildlife during this time of year.

With fewer crowds to contend with, the many ancient sites in the region are noticeably quieter. Many of the remains of the ancient temples and towns along the Turquoise Coast date back to the 5th century BC. For example, the large amphitheatre and tombs carved into the rocks at Myra is significantly quieter in the out of season months.

The coastal scenery of rocky coves fringed with translucent water and hugged by rugged hills is exceptionally beautiful during this time of year as the landscape takes on an autumnal feel.

What is typically awash with people and excessively hot during the summer months becomes much cooler and calmer during the autumn and for many this can be the ideal time to visit Turkey’s stunning Turquoise Coast.
